How counting works

Words are groups of letters or numbers separated by spaces or punctuation, so ‘FastBuySale’ is one word and ‘₹ 500’ counts the number. Characters are counted as grapheme clusters – what you see as one letter – using the browser’s Intl.Segmenter where available, so ‘कि’ is one character, not two code points. Sentences end at . ? ! or the Hindi danda (।). Reading time assumes about 200 words per minute.

Useful limits

A single SMS holds 160 Latin characters but only 70 when it contains Hindi or emoji (Unicode). X (Twitter) posts allow 280, a Google meta description is best under about 155–160, and a FastBuySale listing title reads best under 60 characters. School and college essays often set word limits such as 150, 250 or 500 words – keep an eye on the live word count while you write.

Writing tips

Short sentences are easier to read on a phone. For a listing, put the most important facts – brand, model, condition and price – in the first line. For essays, check that each paragraph has one main idea. When you paste from Word or WhatsApp, extra spaces and line breaks can appear; the counter ignores repeated spaces when counting words.
