Age Calculator by Date of Birth

This free age calculator by date of birth in years, months and days gives your exact age on any date, the total days you have lived and the days left to your next birthday.

Exact age–

It is handy for school admission, government job forms, exam eligibility and pension paperwork. Everything is calculated in your browser using the calendar, including leap years.

How to use

  1. Enter the date of birth.
  2. Optionally change the ‘age on’ date (default is today).
  3. Read the age in years, months and days.
  4. See total days and the countdown to the next birthday.

Guide

How exact age is calculated

We count full years first, then full months, then the remaining days, borrowing days from the previous month when needed – the same method used by schools and most government forms in India. February 29 birthdays are handled correctly: in non-leap years the birthday is counted on 28 February for the countdown. Total days are counted between the two calendar dates, so leap days are included automatically.

Age ‘as on’ a date

Recruitment notices often ask for age as on a cut-off date, such as 1 January or 1 August of the exam year. Change the ‘age on’ date to that cut-off to check eligibility. Remember that relaxation rules for reserved categories, ex-servicemen or persons with disability are applied separately by the notice; this tool only gives the raw age.

Other uses

Use it to check a child’s age for school entry, the age of a vehicle or phone from its purchase date, or how long you have been married or working at a company. Because nothing is uploaded, you can safely enter dates of birth of family members.

Worked example

Someone born on 15 August 1990 is, on 5 November 2026, 36 years, 2 months and 21 days old: 36 full years to 15 August 2026, 2 full months to 15 October, and 21 days from 15 October to 5 November. For an exam with an age limit of 18–32 years as on 1 August 2026, a candidate born on 2 August 1994 is 31 years old on the cut-off and eligible, while one born on 31 July 1994 has turned 32 and needs to check the notice for the exact rule on the upper limit.
