Time Zone Converter for Tokyo

Tokyo uses Japan Standard Time (JST), UTC+9, with no daylight saving time. Japan is one of the first major economies to start each working day, which makes Tokyo the reference point for early-morning calls from Asia and late-evening calls from Europe and the Americas.

Facts that change the answer

Worked example for Tokyo

A London manager who wants to talk to a Tokyo office before the Tokyo day ends has to be online early: 5:00 PM in Tokyo is 8:00 AM in London during British winter time and 9:00 AM during British summer time. The converter shows which of the two applies on your date.

Because Japan does not move its clocks, the gap with the US and Europe changes twice a year from their side only. Tokyo is 14 hours ahead of New York in the US winter and 13 hours ahead from 14 March 2027. With London it is 9 hours in winter and 8 hours from 28 March 2027.

For the rest of Asia and Australia the overlap is easy. Tokyo and Seoul share the same clock. Singapore, Hong Kong and Shanghai are one hour behind. Sydney is two hours ahead in the Australian summer and one hour ahead from April, so a 10:00 AM Tokyo call is noon or 11:00 AM in Sydney.

When the date matters, such as a market opening, a ticket release or a delivery cut-off, enter the date as well as the hour. Calls from the US West Coast to Tokyo often cross into the next calendar day.
