Worked example for Sydney
Australia's seasons run opposite to the northern hemisphere, so Sydney and London move their clocks in opposite directions. The gap is 11 hours from late October to late March, 10 hours for about a week in late March and early April, then 9 hours in the northern summer. A 7:00 AM Sydney call is 8:00 PM the previous evening in London in November, but 10:00 PM in July.
Not every part of Australia uses daylight saving. Queensland, the Northern Territory and Western Australia keep standard time all year, so in summer Sydney is an hour ahead of Brisbane even though they share a time zone in winter. Melbourne, Canberra, Hobart and Adelaide change on the same dates as Sydney.
For calls with the US, Sydney usually works early morning, which is the previous afternoon in New York and Los Angeles. Check the day as well as the time, because Sydney is almost always on the next calendar date.
Tokyo is two hours behind Sydney in the Australian summer and one hour behind in winter, while Mumbai is 5 hours 30 minutes behind in summer and 4 hours 30 minutes behind in winter.
