Buying tips in Colombo
- Ask for the RC, insurance copy and service record, and match the chassis and engine numbers with the RC.
- Check whether the car has an active loan (hypothecation) - the lender's NOC is needed to transfer ownership.
- Take a test drive in traffic and on an open road, and get a trusted mechanic to inspect it before you pay.
Selling tips in Colombo
- Photograph the car in daylight from all sides, plus the dashboard, odometer and tyres.
- Mention the model year, fuel type, kilometres driven, number of owners and insurance validity.
- After the sale, complete the RTO ownership transfer (Form 29/30) so traffic challans are not issued in your name.
