Small businesses, shops, clinics, schools and contractors usually hire people who live within a few kilometres. A clear, honest local job ad brings better applicants than a long, vague one. This guide explains what to write, how to screen people safely and which rules to follow.

What a good job ad must contain

  • Job title in plain words, for example "Shop assistant, mobile accessories" instead of "Executive".
  • Location with area and a landmark, and the working hours including the weekly off.
  • Salary as a range or a fixed amount, and say whether there is incentive, PF or food. Unclear salary is the first reason good candidates skip an ad.
  • Experience needed and whether freshers are welcome, languages required, and what the person will actually do all day.
  • How to apply: reply through the chat on the ad, or walk in at a stated time.

Steps to post the ad

  • Create an account and open Sell, then choose the Jobs category.
  • Write the title and description with the points above, set the city and area, and add a photo of your shop or office if you have one.
  • Check the preview and post. Share the link with your own contacts and neighbourhood groups where you are a member.
  • When the position is filled, mark the ad as closed so applicants do not waste time.

Screen applicants safely and fairly

  • Ask for a short conversation first, then a trial day or interview at your place of work during working hours.
  • Check ID and one reference before giving cash handling or keys, and tell the person clearly what is expected.
  • For home-based or domestic work, meet with a family member present and keep a written note of the agreed pay and duties.
  • Pay the agreed wages on time and keep a simple written record. Honest employers build a reputation that brings better applicants next time.

Rules for job ads

  • Never charge a registration, training, uniform or security fee from a job seeker. Ads that ask for money are scams and will be removed.
  • Do not post fake or misleading jobs, and do not copy ads from other sites.
  • Do not discriminate in an unlawful way and do not ask for private documents in the chat. Share your phone number only when you are comfortable.

Safety tips

  • Meet in a public, well-lit place and, where possible, take someone with you.
  • Inspect the item before you pay and check it matches the listing.
  • Never pay in advance, share OTPs, or move payment outside the agreed meeting.
  • Keep contact through the listing page — contact details are privacy-gated in the app.
  • Report suspicious sellers instead of continuing the conversation.
